Questions and answers

What does Common People Entertainment do?

We're a Dunedin-based events company. We provide event management, talent booking, event operations and logistics, site and production management, health and safety, and artist liaison for councils, conferences, companies and festivals across New Zealand.

Who are your clients?

Council event teams, universities and student associations, conference and corporate event managers, and festival promoters. Past clients include Dunedin City Council, Live Nation, Endeavour Live, NZSki, the Highlanders, Electric Avenue, Baseline Festival and Dunedin Venues Management.

Who will I deal with?

Jason Schroeder, who has run live events since 2010, and David Craig, a production manager for international tours and festivals. For bigger jobs we bring in crews and specialists we've worked with for years.

Can you provide insurance and health and safety documentation?

Yes. Councils and large organisations can request our insurance and health and safety documentation when they send a brief.

How quickly do you reply to a brief?

Within two working days, with options that fit your budget.

How do I contact you?

Use the form on our website or email [email protected].

What does an event manager do?

An event manager plans and runs your event end to end: budget, suppliers, site, health and safety, permits, stakeholders, artists and the running of the day itself. You deal with one person rather than a dozen suppliers.

Do you only work in Dunedin?

No. Dunedin is our base, but we deliver events across New Zealand, including Christchurch, Queenstown, Invercargill, Wellington and Auckland.

Can you manage just part of an event?

Yes. Many clients bring us in for one piece, such as site management, health and safety or the artists, while their own team handles the rest.

How do I get a quote?

Send us a brief with the date, location, audience size and what you need. We reply within two working days with options that fit your budget.

How far ahead should I book entertainment?

For headline artists, three to six months is ideal. DJs, covers bands and solo acts can often be booked with a few weeks' notice, depending on the date.

Can you book acts for corporate events and conferences?

Yes. We regularly book entertainment for corporate functions, awards nights, conferences and team events, from a solo acoustic set to a full band.

Do you book acts outside Dunedin?

Yes. We book talent for events anywhere in New Zealand, including Christchurch, Queenstown, Invercargill, Wellington and Auckland.

What does talent booking cost?

It depends on the act, date and location. Tell us your budget and we'll come back with acts that fit it.

What is event operations management?

It's the practical running of an event: site build, production, schedules, crew, safety and logistics, so the show runs to time and to plan.

Do you supply crew?

Yes. We can supply and manage production and site crew, or work alongside your existing suppliers.

Can you work as a promoter rep or on behalf of a touring company?

Yes. We've worked as promoter representatives and in event operations roles for Live Nation and Endeavour Live.

What is artist liaison?

Artist liaison is looking after performers from arrival to departure: transport, green rooms, riders, schedules and making sure they're on stage on time.

What is advancing?

Advancing is confirming every detail with an artist's team before the show, including technical requirements, hospitality, travel and timings, so nothing is a surprise on the day.

Can you lead a liaison team at a large festival?

Yes. We've led artist liaison teams at Baseline Festival and Electric Avenue.

Where is Common People Entertainment based?

We're based in Ōtepoti Dunedin, New Zealand, and work across the country.

Do you charge travel for events outside Dunedin?

Travel is included in your quote where it's needed. Tell us the location in your brief and we'll factor it in.

Tell us about your event

A few lines is plenty. We'll get back to you within two working days.
